TruckIt!
Truck it is a food truck tracking app for the people who love to taste local food with affordable prices anywhere in the city!
The Story of TruckIt
Imagine a warm summer night on a Saturday. You are outside with your friends in a park and looking for a place to eat since you are hungry. However, you don't want to queue in fancy restaurants, sit with crowd and eat same type of food for expensive prices.
You think to yourself I wish there would be a food truck nearby...
Here it is!
TruckIt helps you to track your favorite food trucks in the city. You can see the nearby food trucks on the map, view their ratings, menus and special offers as well as their scheduled location and even you can order food to pick up.
The Problem
The idea of TruckIt sparked in my mind as in the scenario above.
If you are hungry in the city and want to get food fast with affordable prices, you have limited options with several common fast food chains.
However, there are many food trucks around that can offer local tastes with very fast service and cheap prices but they are not known enough and there is no place to track where they are currently, what they offers, their ratings etc.
In order to solve this problem, I aimed to bring users and food trucks together on TruckIt app.
UX Process
After I realized the problem and the potential, I have decided to make TruckIt alive. I started with user research to understand needs and define the problem better. Based on the inputs of user research, I have continue with persona definition and journey map.
Interviews
At the discovery phase of my project, I conducted user interviews in order to get a better and deeper understanding of the problem.
During my interviews I have questioned:
- Eating behaviors
- Pain points regarding eating at a restaurant or ordering from it
- Perception to buying food from food trucks
- Perceptions and pain points about restaurant location/rating apps
The main insights from the interviews:
Users prefers eating from food truck if it is close by to them, offers good prices and fast service. They usually concerned about eating from food truck since they don't know about the quality of the food. Users want to have a simple place where they can see all the information about food trucks and their locations.
Personas
Based on the interviews I set up two personas. I referred to them throughout the entire process because they were helpful for me to keep the main focus of the product.
I have defined their motivations, pain points and context. Personas guided me defining app features, design and interactions to provide friendly, simple and enjoyable product.
User Journey
I mapped out the users’ steps to see how I could design their journey to help them to navigate app easily and reach their goals.
Sketches
I started the design process with low fidelity wireframes. Sometimes they are just very basic lines, rough drawings but it helps a lot. By this way, I iterate through many design options quickly and test basic functions with users on the paper.

User Testing
Before launching or even hard coding a product, I do user testing rounds in order to reveal possible usability problems in early stages. For TruckIt app, user testing is still on going and based on input, relative iterations will be done.
Take Away
This project helped me to use my design skills end to end with my expertise of UX process. Also, working with a passion project gave me the opportunity to create freely.
The project is still ongoing and even if it is a passion project I am eager to make it alive since it will bring value to people's lives.
